Here’s a highly entertaining adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s famed detective story, combining mystery, romance, action, danger and laughter.  Alice Faulkner has letters written by a dead girl that will cause grave international problems.  Moriarty wants those letters; so does Holmes.  The game’s afoot!  But not before the Professor’s gang has London in its grip.  Only young Holmes understands the true objective the professor has in mind (too sinister to reveal here), and he’s willing to put his own life on the line to stop it.

Brahms & His World

Jennifer Frautschi and Eric Ruske

Sunday, January 15, 2017 - 2 PM

Michael Butterman, conductor

BRAHMS    Tragic Overture
SMYTH    Concerto for Violin and Horn
  Jennifer Frautschi, violin
  Eric Ruske, horn
SCHUMANN    Symphony No. 4

Like his mentor, Robert Schumann, Johannes Brahms inspired the next generation of composers, including Dame Ethel Smyth (1858-1944), a pioneering composer, author and suffragette. Her glorious double concerto reflects his influence (and that of Strauss), while asserting her own unique compositional voice. Brilliant violinist Jennifer Frautschi returns to Boulder with her husband, Eric Ruske, for this unique gem of a duo concerto.

With humor and empathy, As One chronicles a transgender person’s inner journey.
This new, 75-minute chamber opera depicts the experiences of its sole transgender protagonist, Hannah, as she endeavors to resolve the discord between herself and the outside world. Two singers, a baritone and a mezzo-soprano, both portray the character Hannah. Inspired in part by the life experiences of acclaimed filmmaker Kimberly Reed, As One’s rich libretto – and evocative melodies and harmonies – make it an unforgettable work.

Sung in English with English subtitles.
